Mindfulness is the practice of situating yourself in the present moment. Naturally, your mind wanders to the past to ruminate over situations and figure out the reasons things occurred as they have. Your mind will also be drawn towards the future, dazzled by a myriad of possibilities. However, to remain centered, you must bring your attention fully into the present moment as often as possible. Become aware of what your sensations, thoughts, and feelings are as you experience them. This leads to direct connection with your spiritual self.
Connect to your root chakra to become mindful. When this chakra is opened and aligned, you naturally are in tune with the sensations of your body, which help to bring your attention into the present moment. You notice taste, texture, and sounds around you easily.
Find a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Bring your awareness to your root chakra. As you breathe slow and steady, notice a red ball of energy forming at the base of your spine. Feel the groundedness of this energy spreading through your entire body. Then carefully open up your senses. Start to notice the smell of your environment, the feeling of your clothes against your body, how your mouth tastes, what you can hear in the background. Feel relaxed and connected to yourself as you make these observations. When you are fulfilled, return to normal consciousness and open your eyes.
“I am mindful of how I move through my day.”
